B36-2 Review by Small Scale Adventures

B36-2 Review by Small Scale Adventures

It's here. It's awesome. It's already been in pieces.

The new B36-2 has some great features. The well-proven 370 motor, counter-rotation gearbox and B/C control board combination are fitted, providing selectable drag brake and the power to tackle any terrain.

The excellent drivetrain continues from the gearbox to the new-design middle axle with through-shaft construction — previously only seen on the metal axle upgrade kit. This axle eliminates the torque lift and judder of the previous RTR in/out pinion setup by reversing the drive rotation between the two rear axles.

Forward of the motor/gearbox we have the same great B36 design that has evolved from the original “Kung” radio body version. As with other new-generation models, this one has metal dog bones inside the knuckle drive cups.

Previously seen on the C74-1 and C44 RTR, there is also the addition of magnetic closure catches on the doors — which required a redesign of the B36 interior tray and door inner. The mud flaps under the rear deck are also a new plastic compound, much more compliant and rubbery than the harder version on the B36-3 transporter.

Of course, the BM-21 “Grad” weapon system is the highlight of this new model. Well detailed and produced with upgrade possibilities in mind, this is a great representation of the full-size Soviet-designed multiple rocket launcher.

As stock, the rotation and elevation of the rocket launcher can be adjusted manually, friction within the moving parts holding the pose in place. However, the parts include mounting positions and linkage pieces to allow remote control of the launcher.

There are some interesting possibilities for additional control of the rocket launcher under development at WPL HQ. I’m also considering installing two B36-3 boards and utilising the Car1/Car2 “hot swapping” feature to toggle between vehicle control and weapon system from one transmitter. This could also be achieved with Res-V3 boards.

If you want to add a B36-2 to your collection, check out the New Arrival section!
